    Description

This item is an antique vintage right handed 35 3/4" wooden shafted iron made by Tom Stewart of St Andrews Scotland. It is a mashie niblick in the Benny or Mashie style head. Marked A Massy for Arnaud Massey the 1907 Open Champion and 4 time winner of his own National French Open. Perhaps France's greatest hickory golfer. The head is clean and not all rusted. It does show the expected play nicks and dings. It was plated at some point and the plating is not in very good condition. Lined face scoring. Please look at the many zoom pictures for a better idea of condition. The shaft is an old hickory. It is straight, I see no cracks and it is tight at the hosel. The grip is an old long leather wrap that is in fair vintage condition. 43 loft and a C 1 swingweight for play. Tom Stewart irons are sought after by modern day hickory players.
If you are considering playing with this all hickory shafted irons should be re-set prior to play. While I see no issues with the shaft (other than those mentioned above). I suggest whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage (already done with this club). These wooden shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee wooden shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old wooden shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old hickory shafted wood with a hard range ball.
