Description

Here is an unusual pair of 1930s covers to England or sent special delivery bearing joint line or ordinary strips of three or four of the 1932 3-cent Washington definitive issue, Scott 721. Such examples are elusive to find on covers, particular sent overseas or on special delivery items. The joint line, which indicates where plates joined, can clearly be seen in the middle of the special delivery cover. Joint lines are a precursor to plate number coils (PNCs) and are found on a relatively few issues. The covers are in very fine condition, with minor wear from postal handling on the international one.
1. Special delivery Asbury Park NJ to New York City with the joine line strip of four and a 2-cent coil (total franking of 14 cents) tied by indistinct single circle handstamps of May 14, 1939. The envelope is from one M. Newman to a Mr. and Mrs. Victor Reich (sp?), Hotel Iroquois.  The back has three NY Church St. Sta. single ring handstamps of 6am of the next day.
2. An airmail envelope with address sticker of Fassett Medical Book Corp., Burlingame CA. It is addressed to John Bale Sons & Danielson  on Great Titchfield Street, London. The strip of three (the middle stamp has some surface abrasion) and a 5-cent Washington Bicentennial stamp are tied by Burlingame Calif. duplex handstamps of Mar 21 1933.
Elusive and unusual coil multiple usages.
The postage costs on this item are higher than I would like and, after leaving them unchanged for several years, I have raised them slightly in line with the 2021 postage rates. I use good British stamps on all my mailings, which are hand cancelled at my village post office, and these should result in collectable stamps for the buyer.
I advise that items costing more than £25 be sent via tracked post and cannot be responsible for such items sent by ordinary post.
As I have some fixed-price lots, anyone who makes a purchase might want to look at them before paying. If you buy more than one item, please wait for my invoice so I can combine postage
When payment is received by teatime British time (it is usually dished up about 4:30) I normally post the item the next morning. Our village post office is closed on Saturdays, however, so if you pay on Friday the item will not go out until the following Monday.
